Latest trip to Houston

This weekend, I got to go down to Houston to hang with Len. I left for Houston after work on Friday and got down there around 9 or 9:30. I was SOOOOO tired when I got there. I was at work from 6:30 am until around 5:00 pm. It was a pretty typical but good day. I got to Len’s and crashed out almost immediately!! What would I do if he weren’t so understanding?

Saturday, we got up pretty early and headed out to Kohl’s for their 50% off sale. We each bought a few things and it was a fun little shopping trip. We decided we were hungry so we went to find a Chili’s for lunch. I was feeling like their mushroom swiss burger. It’s my favorite of their burgers. 😀 We found several Chili’s close to his house but decided to go to the one out on Hwy 45 by FM 1960. For any of you that know Houston, you’ll know that location isn’t very close to Len’s house but you will know it’s fairly close to Fry’s. That alone was tempting enough for us to drive to almost Dallas for a burger!!

So, we ate then went to Fry’s. After wandering Fry’s and getting some DVD-Rs for me and a movie for Len, we headed back to The Heights so Len could get his hair cut.

We went back to the house and Len watched his movie Constantine. Since I’m not much for movies of this type, I took the opportunity to take a nap!! I was still tired from the drive the night before. It hit the spot because after the nap, we ate Chinese from The Eastern (YUMMY!!!) and headed to have drinks with Super Dave and the crew from Whole Earth at The Heights Sports Bar. I like that place. I could stand to be a regular there when I’m in town! We had some good drinks and coversation and we all voted for Westwood in the KEYE/Rudy’s Marching Band Challenge. As of right now, I have no idea who won. I looked on their website but didn’t find any results yet.

Today, we went to church, then Spanish Flowers to eat (YUMMY!!) then I headed home. It was a nice weekend — just what I needed. I can’t wait for football to start. Between Stony Point, Univ. of Houston and Tx State games, we’ll get our fill between now and November. I’ve got a friend who’s in charge of the pep band for the Houston Texans so I’m going to try to make one game as part of their band. I’ve been offered an opportunity so I just have to find/make time to do it. I think it’ll be a lot of fun!

Debt — The American Way

Well, I’ve continued on my path to becoming more American. I put myself into more debt today. With the debt, I gained a new iBook G4!!! In fact, that’s what I’m using right now to update my blog. So far, in the 5 minutes I’ve had the thing on and set up, I’ve not had too many problems making things work. I got on “the internet”, logged into my blog and have managed to start typing. I’ve discovered that my editing buttons above the text box in which I’m writing in aren’t there using Safari. I guess I’m going to have to download Firefox so things are a bit more similar between my Mac & PC. I’m also finding that the Control Button doesn’t work quite the same. For example, ctrl-c & ctrl-v don’t copy & paste here. Also, ctrl-arrow left or right doesn’t allow me to jump from word to word. Shift-arrow left & right DO allow me to highlight words, one letter at a time. I’m so used to using quick key strokes on PC that I’m going to have to relearn each time I jump back and forth. So far, that’s it. But like I’ve said, I’ve been using this computer for a total of like 10 minutes now. I also have to relearn what the Apple key does. It’s been SO long since I’ve used an Apple computer….

So, are you asking why in the world I bought this Mac if my PC is wonderful (which it is!)? Well, this past spring, I was chosen as an M-Powered Educator by M-Audio. As long as I use their products, I can get hardware on loan and software to keep! Once I find hardware that I can use on a regular basis, I can purchase it at 50% off the retail price. And all I have to do is use the stuff. How awesome is that? I’ve come to find that they have some software that is Mac only. Also, most of the other stuff they have works better on Macs. Multimedia software always have worked better on Macs, haven’t they?

So, I’m in debt a bit more but will benefit with this computer, music hardware and software! I can’t WAIT for all that to come. Now, all I have to do is find time to learn how to use it all.

—update a few seconds later—
I had to use my PC to edit this entry and add in the links. I’ll master that Mac…after time!

Celebration — 1 year

Can you believe that a year ago this weekend, I visited Len in Houston for the very first time? I guess neither of us blogged about it last year…not sure why. It certainly has been quite the wonderful year. I am so fortunate to have found such a kind, understanding, flexible, loving man. On top of that, he’s one sexy mutha! 😉
Sexy Mutha!
We’ve had our moments of disagreement but what couple doesn’t? Pretty much all of this year, though, has been filled with absolute fun times that I can’t wait for more of. Well, back to the fun!

Most Emilys I know are nice…

My hopes and prayers go out to those as they wait to see how Hurricane Emily will hit the Texas/Mexico coast.

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rain fall softly on your fields
And until we meet again, May God hold
you in the hollow of his hand.
