It’s here!!!

Guess what?

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I’m 32. Time has flown SOOOO quickly. I was talking to one of my collegues the other day. When he was 32, his daughter was only 4 or 5 and he was MY band director. Now, his daughter is graduating with her masters from UT and his program “feeds” my program. I could go on with stories like this for days. I guess the one thing that makes me really feel old is thinking about this kid I used to babysit in college. When his parents moved to San Marcos to lead the band program at SWT, Aaron was just 4. Yesterday, he turned 18 and has just graduated from high school!!! Aaron running around the band field at breaks during rehearsals yelling, “Has anybody SEEN Cathy Benford?” just seems like the other day.

Okay, enough with the memories. Today’s going to be a busy day. Work all day and our banquet tonight. Len gets here mid-day!!! I’m going to have to take some “stop” time today to celebrate his arrival.

Y’all have a wonderful day!

Star Wars III

If you get to see this movie before me, PLEASE do NOT tell me about it. Don’t ruin this event for me. That would totally suck. I appreciate your sensitivity to this matter.

It’s that time again — another monumentous occasion in movie history. Only minutes until the first opening of the the final installment in the epic Star Wars series. Am I in line, waiting to see it first? I should be. I’m one of the biggest Star Wars fans you’ll ever meet. Am I actually in line? Obviously not. No, I’m at home. Waiting ever so patiently until I can share this experience, this historical event with someone. Whom will I share it with? You’d think Len, obviously, but he’s currently in line to see this movie already. I guess sending him the Outlook appointment wasn’t hint enough. So much for hinting. I guess I’m going to have to be direct and blunt from now on. Len, honestly, truely, totally — I hope you enjoyed the movie. It should be awesome.

Maybe my best friend Cathy will want to see it with me. She’s more a Treckie than a Star Wars fan (right?) but she’s always all up for a good flick the first time out.

Now, the first two episodes have NOT been nearly as good as Episode 4, honestly, not even in the same league. If you saw Attack of the Clones and Two Towers in the same few days (like I did), you’d have seen that they were very close in storyline. In fact, the big war scene where the clones (in both movies) attack the big empire building (in both movies) were very similar, just set in different time periods with different types of clones. I didn’t much care for the redundancy in that case. Still a good flick.

The thing that makes this movie so special is a few different things.
1. They haven’t advertised the shit out of this movie. It’s gotta be quite pure for Lucas. I love being a purist. If this movie is pure Lucas, it’ll be awesome.
2. It ties up all the loose ends that start out Episode 4, A New Hope.
3. It ties up all the loose ends that are left after Episode 1 & 2.
4. The special effects get better and better each time.
5. C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbaca are in this one!!! (Hale, Hale, the gang’s all here!!!)

I could go on.

I can’t wait to see this one. Hopefully, I can see it before all the hype dies down. Cathy, if you wanna go, let me know when and we’re there!!

Catwoman

Halle Berry is hot. The movie’s alright but she plays that cat well. My cats even liked her in this role. They sat and slept through the entire flick.
The storyline seemed a bit disjunct or something. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great either. I wouldn’t say no to seeing it again but I wouldn’t make a point to watch it all over again. Like I said, I’m not sure about this one. Any thoughts from anyone else who might have seen it?

I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Oh yeah, less than a week until my birthday!

Quick Update

Long, long, LONG week. I think tomorrow is the first day that won’t be 14 hours at work…it may be 15 instead! Argh. It’s been fulfilling, though. Tomorrow is our final concert of the year. Should be pretty good.

7 more shopping days until my birthday. I’m surprised Amazon doesn’t have the countdown listed yet. Hmmmm…. I guess I’ll just have to deal with it this year. No time to call and get things moving over there. Slackers…. 😉
