What to do, what to do?

Friends & general readers of Bigbenford.com, I need your help. As I put my house together (MY HOUSE!!!!), I know I’m going to come across questions in which I’ll need opinions on and I trust that you’ll input your always helpful opinions (yes, even you, Ed). At this time, I have two questions:

1. Where do you store your cookbooks? I’ve had them on a shelf next to the kitchen for a long time but now, I don’t want to do that but it seems like there’s not a great place to keep them. I’m almost thinking pantry but I think if I did that, I’d have to modify one of the shelves so the covers/pages wouldn’t slip through.

2. I have a 20″ Hitachi monitor I’m not sure what to do with. I’ve had it for several years and I’m really pretty much all laptop now so the use of a monitor is not necessary. I have a tower that I’d like to rebuild at some point but it’s not a priority any more. If I keep the monitor, I don’t want it sitting in my office until I’m ready to use it. Should I sell the monitor or store it in the garage or what?

Okay, those are today’s challenge questions. Thanks for your help now and in the future.

  1. Get rid of the display. You’ll want a new one eventually anyway. LCD displays are getting cheaper and cheaper. Maybe you can a get a little cashmoney for it on craigslist.

  2. I have a small bookcase in the livingroom where all my reference materials, i.e., art books, archaeology books, gardening and landscaping books, decorating books and cookbooks are stored. They make a pretty display and the livingroom provides comfortable reading when I want to pull a few out to find a good recipe.
Bed Bath & Beyond has functional folding bookshelves that fit into most small spaces. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14049100
Target has some wood ones and I’ve seen some at Pier 1, too.

  3. You know, that bookshelf looks fairly easy to make. I wonder if that’s something I could make…..

  4. Where ever you decide to place the cookbooks, make sure they’re not hidden somewhere. I kick myself sometimes because I’ve forgotten that I have certain cookbooks.

Unless you plan on hooking up the monitor to your laptop, I’d say sell it. A little extra cash for a bookshelf!
