A big new year for Big Benford

In a few hours, we’re headed out to downtown Austin to start our New Years celebration. We’re staying at the Omni (apparently, they have an amazing hot tub) and we’re going to Annie’s West for our celebrations. I’m really excited because some really neat people are going to join us for the festivities. 🙂

2008 has been a fairly good year for me. I’ve started my 9th year of teaching this fall and although it’s been a busy fall, it’s been busy because we’ve been successful. Nothin’ wrong with that! I have some wonderful new friends, including my boyfriend Keith, that I’ve been able to share this year with. My Thursday night girls group is still going strong and I’m happy they’re in my lives. This summer’s trip was too much fun! I can’t wait to see what 2009 brings!

So, if you’re going out tonight, be safe and remember that there are people who have to work to take care of you…so take care of them. Have a great time, whatever you do and I’ll see you in 2009!

Love you, mean it!

A cold front blows in…

360 Degree view of a cold front blowing in while I stood in the parking lot of Stony Point.

My sinuses are now suffering from being outside through it…but the video is worth it, I think.

Thanksgiving weekend

It was a very nice weekend. I got quite a few things done while staying relaxed – optimum way to spend the long weekend. 🙂

Our Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful. It was basically the four of us (mom, dad, me and my sister Trish) but Trish’s friend Katie joined us for dinner and my friend Ken and his mom & sister joined us for dessert. Lots of food, a bit of wine and lots of love. Perfect day. Trish & Chris’s dogs enjoyed themselves as well.

I posted about the game on Saturday. I’m proud of the Tigers. Our next game is Saturday, December 6 at 2 pm at Floyd Casey Stadium (Baylor). We play Dallas Skyline in the State Quarterfinals…who knows how it will turn out but all I can say is Go Tigers!

Sunday, Keith helped me put up Christmas decorations around my house. Okay, so he helped bring stuff in from the garage, put the tree together and put mini trees outside. That was enough. 🙂 I feel just festive enough. I don’t plan on letting my house puke Christmas. 😉

Now, I’m just waiting on information on the New Year’s Party. We’re going to gather at Annie’s West on West 6th. My friend Ben owns the joint and it’s really a nice, relaxed place. We’re expecting good food, good music and a relaxing (but high class) celebration. Just waiting on Ben to send the details…. (We’ll have room for between 15-20 (maybe more) so if you’d like to join us, let me know and I’ll send you details.)

Football

Well, the Stony Point Tigers won another play-off game. What does that mean? 6 more weeks of winter! No, wait…at least another week of football. I’m a little torn ’cause I’m ready for a break from high school football. BUT, now that we’re this far (next week’s game is the State Quarter Finals, I think), let’s just finish off the State and go all the way, huh? Go Tigers.

On to college football and the BCS. The new polls and calculations have been posted and living in Austin, all I’m hearing is “blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah blah; Go Mizzu Tigers!!”. Okay, I can understand that with UT having beaten OU 45-35, OU shouldn’t be ahead of UT in the standings. But they let coaches vote without any weight to their votes as part of this stupid algorithm. I’m sorry, if you’re going to let a bad coach with a grudge (*ahem* A&M, who said before Thanksgiving that he was giving his vote to OU) vote in the poll, it shouldn’t have the same merit as a good coach with no political or historical grudges. Besides, who in the hell decided math and football should be combined anyways???

Professional football – why does some football player think he needs a gun? Or better yet – why is anyone going to a club where you might need a gun? Dumb.

Okay, there are my thoughts on a sport I really don’t care for. Hope you had a fun weekend, too! LOL
