The September Update

Well, the first contest is this Saturday. Where has the time flown? Thank goodness for good music, good drill and great kids! I have to admit that they’re reaching that end of September lull that tends to hit the Tiger Band. But I think this year, they’re more aware of it happening so they’re fighting it as much as we are. Let’s hope they all pass their classes in a few weeks so they can keep on keepin’ on!

I am so extremely busy, it’s actually funny. Except, I don’t have a whole lot of time to think about the humor of it so I don’t get to laugh about it too much. Thank goodness for goofy kids and good friends to keep me smiling and laughing!

Grey’s Anatomy comes back on tonight. I’m really excited. I’m sad that Stacy has to work but happy that Monica is back in the country. Girl’s night feels so much more complete when we’re all there and Grey’s is on. LOL

Things with Keith are going really well. I’m always at ease now that he’s around. It’s a nice feeling – FINALLY!!! Hanging out with him and his roommate Jeff is always so laid back and relaxed. Just what I need this time of year. And it doesn’t bother him that we have to squeeze in and find/make time to spend together because my job is so crazy right now. We just go with the flow. Again…FINALLY!!

A few small personal projects on the horizon I have to take care of –

  • Find out flight info for Midwest. I have the hotel reservation, though.
  • Figure out plans for Spring Break and see if I can truly commit to going to NCBF as the host of the Honor Jazz Ensemble or not.
  • Dangit, there was another one but in the process of typing the last one, I forgot. Par for the course right now. It’ll come to me later.
  • I’m excited for our upcoming trip to Hawaii next summer. I really need to get my regulator serviced and get in a dive or two before June. But that wasn’t what I was thinking about for my list above. I’ve sung Joe McDermott’s song “Come to Hawaii” for the past 2 weeks. It’s a cute little ditty that keeps me smiling as well. Anything helps, lemme tell ya!

I know many of my blog buddies have been crazy busy as well. Send good thoughts to the Montoya Brothers as one finishes his last year on his masters and the other starts his first year as a Head Band Director. Good gravy!!

Oh, have I mentioned I’m hooked on the FailBlog? So many funny things in this world! And you can’t make this stuff up!!

Okay, I’m off to watch Grey’s. Have a great rest of the weekend!

    Don’t ask…

…’cause I just have to write it down somewhere. I have to stop obsessing with it. It’s okay and it’ll be okay. *sigh*

Okay, I’ll feel better eventually. There’s nothing wrong, it’s probably all in my head. Unfortunately, I can’t get it out of my head so I can not obsess about nothing. Some days, I hate being a girl!

If you’re forced to read this because it pops up in your RSS reader or something, I apologize.

This public service announcement brought to you by…

Can we classify this as at all ironic? From an article in BizJournals sent to me by my friend Cathy T.:

Under California’s Prop. 65, consumer products that contain toxic levels of 1,4-Dioxane must have warning labels stating they may cause cancer. 1,4-Dioxane is typically produced as a byproduct when cleansing and moisturizing products are processed.

The suit, California v. Avalon Natural Products, also names as a defendant Austin-based Whole Foods Market Inc., which manufactures the 365 brand sold in the company’s stores. Beaumont Products Inc., maker of the Citrus Magic brand, and a Lakeport, Calif.-based company are also named.
The attorney general alleges the companies should have put warning labels on products containing high levels of 1,4-Dioxane, stating that they may cause cancer.

    I’ll Be On My Way

I got a text today by a friend who knows I’m interested in grad school in my near future and it asked how much longer I was going to keep teaching because a professor I know just got a gig at a school as department chair of music at a small state university in the Midwest (is that vague enough?? LOL). This professor is a wonderful teacher (not instrumental) and a great man but not the reason I’m going to grad school. So, I text back how long I’m planning on teaching and that I’m not looking at this school and the text back is, “I’ wouldn’t look there, either”. So, what was the point?

This grad school thing is a very delicate subject for me. I think I got an okay education for my undergrad but more importantly, I had a great life experience. I learned how to make connections. I learned to not be afraid of what is out in the world and because of this, I’ve figured out that what I know is not enough – I want more! Going to grad school is about me and me only. Who I go to school with only depends on who is there and who shows up while I’m where I end up. I’m planning on focusing on my studies and becoming a better conductor and musician. It’s not about becoming a better administrator or making friends…not that I’ll turn away opportunities for new friendships or becoming a more efficient business person. I’m not toying or kidding around with the opportunities ahead of me here. This is for real.

    Little Child

Have you ever watched Little Einsteins? It is the cutest show! Here is a synopsis of the show from TV.com:

Little Einsteins takes us on an adventure with four children: Leo, June, Annie and Quincy. Each of these four children have their own specialization, Leo loves to conduct, Annie loves to sing, Quincy loves to play instruments while June loves to dance. The series uses various pieces of classical music as the basic fundamentals for the series, though the series also capitalizes on the premise and episodes typically have famous artwork within them.

Any chance I get, I watch it. It’s so enjoyable to watch a TV show that incorporates art and music with little adventures! Okay, so the story lines are a little silly but it’s designed for pre-school aged kids. Silly is perfectly a-okay!
