Here, There, Everywhere

Today has been quite a domestic day for me. Here’s the run down of all that’s been done around the house:

  • Cleaned out the refrigerator(s)
  • Mopped the kitchen floor (helps when you drop & break something out of the fridge)
  • Vacuumed the living room, hallway, my bedroom and bathroom
  • 2 Loads of dishes (the second load was all the containers from the fridge)
  • Put away laundry (okay, most of that got done like 2 days ago…but there’s always laundry to do and put away!)
  • Took out the trash
  • The house isn’t spic and span necessarily but it does feel much better. Now, if I can just get to organizing that office again. That’s a never ending project…especially if I never get to working on it! LOL I think I’m going to leave that one for another day.

Oh, I had a little bit of an adventure today. I was talking to Kelly (Krez) when the doorbell rang. I wasn’t expecting anyone so I looked out the window to see a Travis County Sheriff’s car outside. I laughed because I knew it was one of my ex-band dads and an ex-student that was riding with him today. But geez, since I was cleaning, I am just in a t-shirt and yoga pants with my hair up. I was a little embarrassed to say that least! But it was certainly nice of them to stop by and make my neighbors think that something was going on here! 😀

Tonight, bonfire at our friend Ben’s place in Leander. We’re going to roast marshmallows and make smores! Should be a fun time. 😛

Still need to decide plans for New Years. I think we’ve got a few VIPs lined up so it should be a fun night downtown. I’ve gotta figure out what I’m gonna wear, too. Hmmmmm……

    My 101

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but in my links list on the left here, is a new one called “Benford’s 101”. I’ve decided to set 101 goals for myself to finish in 1001 days. Now, when is that end? Not sure ’cause I started working on this list when I figured it wouldn’t take this long to put together 101 goals! LOL So, 1001 days is the next 2 years plus 270 days. Although I’ve already crossed off a few things from the list, I’ll keep working on this list for almost the next 3 years.

Where did I get the idea from? Monica. If you look on that same link list on the left there, you’ll see a link to Monica’s 101 in 1001. She’s doing well…even blogging about her accomplishments!

So, what are these goals? Some are short term goals, some are on going. As I cross more goals off, I’ll try to blog about them; maybe even include a picture or two!

    Sundays in October

I love Sundays in October. If you don’t know already, October is the craziest fall month for me because that’s when the rubber meets the road for a band director. This month is full of contests, mostly marching. In order to be sure that the kids are successful at contests, we try to practice as often as we can (within the 8 hour rule, of course). On top of all that, we have football games, homecoming, a report card (which could knock kids out of participating all together) at least one holiday or staff development day and I think something else major but it’s just not coming to mind right now. So, needless to say that the month of October is crazy for anyone involved with high school band.

Ah, but Sundays are spectacular for me. I’m single and have no kids of my own so Sundays are my day to myself. I stay in my PJs for a good chunk of the day and catch up on TV shows I’ve missed all week. I start the day with a nice breakfast and actually have 3 square meals on a Sunday. I try to make sure I do a few chores so they don’t pile up but I don’t obsess about getting everything done on a Sunday anymore. The kitchen floor can be mopped again in November, you know what I mean? It’s really about regaining my sanity and reminding my cats that they I really do run this house. LOL

So, I guess I’ll go do a load of laundry now because that is the one constant to Sundays at my house or the rest of the week doesn’t work quite right. Hope you enjoy this glorious Sunday as well!

Oh, and Happy Birthday to my friend Daniel Montoya, Jr.. It was kinda weird but kinda cool announcing his name as the composer of a show that performed at our contest yesterday! 😉 Speaking of birthdays, it’s Frank Miller’s birthday as well. Wow, what a wonderful addition to an already fabulous day!!

    Suicide Prevention

I got this email today. As a person who has lost at least one friend to suicice, I can attest that any help you can contribute is well appreciated.

    Dear SPHS Band Directors,

Last October I lost a family member to suicide. My mother and I have decided to create a team in memory of my great-aunt Marilyn.

I would like permission to post a flyer in the band hall to educate and recruit walkers for our team and to raise donations. Below is the standard donation letter with more info on the community walk.

I will be joining with thousand of people nationwide this fall walking in AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

My personal fundraising goal is $150.00. I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 30,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP’s mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.

I hope you will consider supporting my participation in this event. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP. Checks should be made payable to AFSP and are 100% tax deductible.

Thank you for considering this request for your support. If you have any questions about the Out of the Darkness Community Walks or AFSP do not hesitate to contact me.

    Sincerely,
    Tyler R.
