Shall We Dance?

The acting was okay and Jennifer Lopez was almost tollerable but something about this movie really hit me. It’s actually an American remake of a Japanese film of the same name. Richard Gere is an ordinary man who has a happy marriage and family but is missing something in his life. Everyday, his L-train passes by this dance studio and after many days of looking through the window, he decides he’s going to see if ha can find the missing element of his life on the other side of this window.

Beverly Clark: We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet… I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things… all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness’.”

There was something about this movie that spoke to me. Maybe it was about not being afraid to try something, even if you’re afraid of failing. Maybe it was about following your passions. Maybe it was just that I’ve always loved to dance and there was a lot of dancing in this movie. Maybe it was just Richard Gere. Who knows. I liked it.

Along Came Polly

Can a risk-averse insurance salesman on the rebound from his bride’s infidelity (during their honeymoon) find happiness with a waitress he knew in junior high who’s averse to commitment? This is a cute flick. Ben Stiller (Ruben) is a smidge annoying but that’s part of the characters he plays, isn’t it? Ruben’s buddy Sandy & risk taking corporate mogal Leland Van Lew are quite funny additions to the movie as well. It’s not one to own but I enjoyed it.

Mean Girls

Funny flick! Anyone who has been a girl in high school can understand and somewhat relate to this movie. It’s about how teen girls can easily get caught up in being bitchy 👿 and judgemental. It’s quite the chick flick so if you want to watch this movie and haven’t, be prepared for it. It is funny so if you can deal with all the chick stuff, it’s worth watching!

Jason: [reading from the Burn Book] Trang Pak made out with Coach Carr! And so did Sun Jin Dinh!
Trang Pak: [in Vietnamese] You little slut!
Sun Jin Dinh: You’re the slut!
[both start swearing in Vietnamese]

Regina: Oh my God, I love your skirt! Where did you get it?
Lea Edwards: It was my mom’s in the ’80s.
Regina: Vintage, so adorable.
Lea Edwards: Thanks.
Regina: [after girl walks away] That is the ugliest f-ing skirt I’ve ever seen.

Batman Begins

Saw “Batman Begins” today. Really liked it a lot. I felt it was dark but with hints of light and optimism. The story of Batman’s history was quite detailed but not cumbersome and I appreciated that. The character of Rachel could be better developed, though. I can see this being a potentially excellent series of movies if each one is approached as this one was!

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Not a bad movie. I got to see it this morning with my friend Cathy (not talking about myself in the third person). I’m not really a big Brad Pitt fan nor am I an Angelina Jolie fan but it didn’t deter from the movie itself. You guys all know the main plot, right? Cute suburban couple seem to live normal lives, but each has a huge secret — both hired assassins. They’ve managed to keep these secrets from everyone…even from each other. There are a few twists in there and I found myself second guessing things that seemed obvious in the plot. The action scenes are pretty bad ass, too. Pitt & Jolie do have good chemistry together, too. I’d see it again.
