I just wanted to invite you all to watch the Stony Point Tiger Band at UIL Area D contest on Saturday. We perform at HIGH NOON at the Round Rock ISD Athletics Complex on Parmer. Our show is only about 7 minutes long so if you’re running late, you might miss it. Hopefully, we’ll make the Finals (and if that happens, then the possibility of State becomes pretty close) that night. Audience support always helps so I’d appreciate if you could join us. Tickets are $4 and available at the gate. After we get the band on the field, I head up to the top of the stadium above the 50 yard line. If you can find a seat close to the 50, I’ll see you for sure. Hope to see you there.

I’ll Be On My Way
I got a text today by a friend who knows I’m interested in grad school in my near future and it asked how much longer I was going to keep teaching because a professor I know just got a gig at a school as department chair of music at a small state university in the Midwest (is that vague enough?? LOL). This professor is a wonderful teacher (not instrumental) and a great man but not the reason I’m going to grad school. So, I text back how long I’m planning on teaching and that I’m not looking at this school and the text back is, “I’ wouldn’t look there, either”. So, what was the point?
This grad school thing is a very delicate subject for me. I think I got an okay education for my undergrad but more importantly, I had a great life experience. I learned how to make connections. I learned to not be afraid of what is out in the world and because of this, I’ve figured out that what I know is not enough – I want more! Going to grad school is about me and me only. Who I go to school with only depends on who is there and who shows up while I’m where I end up. I’m planning on focusing on my studies and becoming a better conductor and musician. It’s not about becoming a better administrator or making friends…not that I’ll turn away opportunities for new friendships or becoming a more efficient business person. I’m not toying or kidding around with the opportunities ahead of me here. This is for real.

The Texas State Panorama Steel Drum Band performed in the lobby at TMEA this past February. These videos were too big to upload onto YouTube but my Flickr account could take them so now I can share them!

I’ve Just Seen A Face
I recently got my CD/DVD Bundle of the Michigan State University Wind Symphony from this past Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. It was an amazing concert to see in person and I’m enjoying being able to see it again. The camera work is pretty good, too. I wish I had an option to get watch the conductors but that’s just for my personal education. The only thing that annoys me about watching this video is the camera shows the saxes a lot and they sure are a distracting bunch – constantly moving around while they’re playing! I’m all for feeling the music when you play but when it looks like you’re almost coming up off your seat, it’s a bit much. I wonder if they knew they were being video taped or something….
