Connie’s recovery

Yesterday was an interesting day. Len’s been here since Saturday night (wonderful!!!) and he had to leave yesterday morning (boo!!). I eventually got going and had breakfast and went to work out. After I got cleaned up, I headed out.

I stopped off at my folks’ house to pick up mail and drop off stuff then headed over to Seton Southwest Hospital to visit Connie. She’s just had hip replacement surgery. Before I stopped off at mom & dad’s house, I stopped at Central Market to pick up bulk chocolates & flowers (the chocolates were at her request). She was groggy from some anti-nausea medicine when I got there but she looked great as always. Frank was there but Sami was out and about, enjoying car time. She’d been on a liquid diet up until that point but I think she was gonna get some solids for dinner yesterday. Her physical therapist came by and they worked on walking for a while and that was very exciting to see. That morning, she had text messaged me to let me know she had walked (with walker & PT help) to the window and back. When I was there, the PT had her walking around the room and sitting in a chair, leg propped up. HUGE accomplishment for someone who had just had gotten a hip upgrade installed just over 24 hours before!!! I’m so excited for her. I haven’t heard from her today but I bet she’s running amuck around the hospital and they’re gonna have to chain her down to keep her from doing too much too fast.

On a wierd note, on the way from my parents’ house to the hospital, I was hit by a huge piece of plywood that had popped up from the truck in front of me but no damage was done to my car *whew*. On the way home, I made sure to look for that damn piece of plywood that became 3 pieces after it had hit my car. I cussed out every stinking piece!! HA.

Dinner

Have I mentioned that I love food? It has to be the good stuff, though. Not just any junk food from where ever. Tonight, I didn’t know what I was going to make for dinner. I pulled out a chicken breast (boneless, skinless) out of the freezer to thaw and started to dig through spices to see what concoction I could come up with. Just then a commercial for Taco Bell comes on TV and they’re talking about some chicken enchilada something or another. Now, Taco Bell can be okay for something to eat while you’re drinking or already drunk but it’s certainly not my favorite fast food joint. But chicken enchilada sounded good! So, I got out cumin, seasoned salt and cayenne pepper and set the chicken to thaw. Meanwhile, I started a pan with olive oil and cut up half an onion (long, narrow slices) and a clove of garlic and started to sauté that together. I cut the chicken into abut 5 pieces (cutting across the breast) and sprinkled it with the spices. From there, I added the chicken to the pan, cut up 6 mushrooms and started some minute rice. I added an ounce or so of water to the pan to help spread the spices around. About 2 minutes before the chicken was done, I threw in the mushrooms then the cooked rice and stirred it all in and WOW! it was really yummy. I’ve added a new dish to my creations. Feel free to try it. I rarely measure things when I cook like this so you’ll just have to add ingredients that feel like they’d work. Bon appetite!

My new do

I got my hair cut today. It’s basically the same shape but just 2 1/2 inches shorter. I sent Len a picture I took in my car with my camera phone. It’s not the best pic but it’s what I have right now.
As soon as I get a better pic, I’ll post it. Let me know what you think! 🙂

New Years Eve Visitor

We had a little visitor this morning. He taunted the cats nicely, especially Pfema. Click on the picture to see more.

It’s the wrong one, Charlie Brown!

Krez’s last post talked about good DVDs and Len & I both mentioned that we like A Charlie Brown Christmas (1956). Tonight, as I flipped through the TV, I ran across opening credits with Snoopy & friends playing in the snow. I was all overjoyed thinking I was about to catch one of my favorite Christmas specials. Low and behold, it was NOT!!! Instead, it’s All I Want For Christmas is a Dog, Charlie Brown (2003). Hmpf. It’s not terrible but it’s not what I was expecting. And on top of that, there’s really nothing much else on TV. Oh well. I’ve got an apartment to clean anyways. *shrug*

I do have to say that a quote I like from the movie is, “Rerun: Sisters are the crab grass in the lawn of life.” (Rerun is Lucy & Linus’s youngest brother.)
