Act Naturally

I can’t remember if I’ve blogged about this before but it’s official – I’m presenting at Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in a few weeks. I’m really quite nervous because I’ve never presented at a large conference like this before AND my partner in technology crime isn’t going to be there after all. I’m in it all by myself! Scary….

I’ve gotten a pretty good outline down and lots of info from my buddy who was going to co-present with me so I know it’ll go okay but I’m mostly afraid of the technological questions that may hit me. But if they really need to know tech specs, I can always refer them to the websites of the manufacturers, right?

I haven’t decided whether friendly faces will be something that will help or make me nervous yet but I’m guessing that familiar faces can’t easily be avoided so I’ll just deal with whomever shows up. It’s on the afternoon of the very first day of the convention so I’m not expecting a very large crowd or anything. I’m also not happy that I’m missing a huge chunk of the All State Jazz Music Clinic. I’ve gotta get someone to video tape that….

Okay, that’s it for today. Have a happy, safe and relaxing 4th of July! I’m goin’ to the lake!!!
Love you, mean it!!

Thank You Girl

Each week, on Tuesdays, iTunes likes to promote new artists or albums by offering a free song of the week. Most times, it’s not very good but last week, their song was by Karina (Pasian, not to be confused with the South American singer Karina) called “Just Can’t Find the Words”. It’s not really the lyrics that catch me but the upbeat tempo and the fun melody of the tune. Good for both a work out and to just kick back to. Unfortunately, it’s not free on iTunes anymore but still available for just 99 cents.

Now we’ve been talking for a while;
And you got me tryin to figure out
boy i don’t know what to say to you
but you got me feelin some kind of way for you

and all i know is when we’re together
no one can make me feel the way you do baby
i wish each moment can last forever
its hard to explain the way i feel for you
(i just can’t find the words)
you got me loosing myself
in what i’m trying to say
and its so hard to fight it
cant help but feelin this way
and every time that i’m near you its like my heart gets weak.
feels like im loosing my breath makin it hard to speak.

i just can’t find the words
woo woo
just can’t find the words
woo woo
i just cant find the words
woo woo
i just can’t find the words

I know what it is that I like about this song – it’s simplicity. Every chord is laid out in it’s arpeggios and it just makes the song sound so simple and, and…quaint!

Run For Your Life

Before about 10 am, the weather here is really nice. About 75 degrees and a nice breeze that makes a difference because it still feels cool. I’ve taken to walking/jogging every few days around that time in the last week or so. I know, one of my favorite phrases is “I don’t run unless I’m being chased”. I usually only get to a jog when I’m going a bit downhill and I can’t help but get my pace to a jog. My neighborhood lends itself to the activity really well because it has cut through pathways in between houses and a nice park to start my walk around. I also have quite a few small gradient hills to help the muscle resistance (or whatever it is hills do for ya). My walk/jog only lasts about 15 minutes but by the time I’m home, I’m drenched in sweat and my pulse rate is definitely higher so I know I’m getting in a work out. I have no idea the distance (although I’m sure I could figure it out using Google Maps or something) but each time I do this, I’m going to take a different route to see if I’m out longer or not. Hopefully, this will become a regular thing for the summer!

I’ve mapped it out on Google Maps (I love that app) so if you’d like to see my route, let me know and I’ll be more than happy to email you the link…if I know you. 😉

Any Time At All

I’ve really needed a new wireless router since mine is like 5 years old and the firewall technology is now pretty ancient. Krez has told me many a time how hackable my network is and I keep telling him there’s nothing on my network that anyone will want. *shrug*

About a year ago, Apple came out with Time Capsule. What’s better than a wireless router that will back up your hard drives (as long as you have Leopard on your Mac) as well??? So, I decided to go ahead and order one, especially once I figured that Apple wasn’t going to release anything cool this summer.

My Time Capsule, along with an Airport Express was due to arrive yesterday via FedEx (signature required). I figured they’d be at my house between 3-5 pm since that’s when I’ve noticed delivery companies coming though my neighborhood in the past. Keith showed up around 7:30 with still no FedEx delivery. I was pretty bummed but even if they did show up around that time, there was nothing I could do with it so I let it go.

This morning, I checked (stalked) the tracking online to show that they “tried” to deliver last night. When I got home last night, there was no slip that they had tried to deliver. I didn’t feel like sitting around waiting until who knows when for them to deliver so I called and had them connect me to the Howard Ln office. Jared was very helpful in explaining that with some other errors that happened in Pflugerville yesterday, delivery of my package was probably never actually attempted. After some very logical conversation, Jared said he would call the driver with my package and call me back with a time frame that delivery would happen today. He called back to tell me that I’d have my Time Capsule within the hour.

I should have it all setup and going way before I need to head out to Cedar Park for Jones’s party. I’m a very excited Cathy!

——————UPDATE——————
It just got here. The delivery guy says, “I knocked and rang the doorbell last night. You didn’t hear me?” Whatever…. He’s gonna have to bring the Airport Express by at some point as well. Maybe I should have mentioned that earlier to Jared on the phone…but it didn’t necessarily show it in the same place when I tracked it earlier.

The cats even appreciate the delivery ’cause it’s a box they get to play in. Or at least Pfema is getting to play in.
